1.When的用法
when引导从属子句，表示时间，在本课中介绍的用法，when是引导副词子句。子句中的动词时态需配合句意，通常与主要子句的动词一致。
●I saw the circus when I was about eight. 我在八岁的时候看了那场马戏团表演。
●I saw the parade when I was in the city. 我在城里的时候看了那场游行。
●They played baseball when they were children. 他们小时候打过棒球。
When子句在表示未来的时候，仍要用现在式。
●I’ll go to bed when I finish my homework. 我做完功课会上床睡觉。
●You’ll be surprised when you see her. 你看到她的时候会很惊讶。
2.现在分词/过去分词当形容词
现在分词指V-ing的形式，除了可用于进行式之外，还可单独使用，作形容词。过去分词则有规则与不规则之分，规则动词的过去分词以-ed结尾，不规则动词则视种类而定。
现在分词与过去分词当形容词时，基本上有些差异，分述如下：
(1)现在分词表主动，过去分词表被动。
a walking dictionary(活字典)
a written examination(笔试)
●The boy speaking is Tom.说话的男孩是汤姆。
The boy spoken about is Tom. 被提到的男孩是汤姆。
(2)现在分词表进行，过去分词表完成。
a falling leaf (落叶——正在落下) a fallen leaf (掉落的叶子——已经掉在地上)
3.现在完成式与since/for
有“since+子句”或“for+片语”的句子中，动词的时态要用完成式。since是指“自从…时候起”，for则表示“达…的一段时间”。
●You haven’t called us since you moved. 你搬家之后就没有再打电话给我们了。
●You haven’t called us for weeks. 你好几个星期都没有打电话给我们了。
●You haven’t gone on a trip since you were a kid. 你自孩提时代起没有去旅行过。
●You haven’t gone on a trip for years. 你有好多年没有去旅行了。
Since也可当介词，后面接片语或单字，其用法与接子句时相同。
●You haven’t called us since last week. 你自从上星期到现在，都还没打电话给我们。
●You haven’t gone on a trip since last summer. 你自从去年暑假到现在都还没有去旅行。
●We haven’t played baseball since our college days. 自从大学时代到现在，我们都还没有打过棒球。
