The best answer should be C, for it is obvious that here John has ever been there, which means including him, so "besides"should be used here.

选C，besides,根据这句话的意思：除了John去了奥林匹克中心之外，还有谁去了？
所以应选c.  besides是包括后面对象的“除了”。but 是不包括后面对象的“除了”。
except that后面接句子。
